USC Student's attend Lowitja O'Donoghue Oration
USC Year 11 and 12 Students, Anika, Qezia, Tabitha, Anjali and Azul attended the Lowitja O'Donoghue Oration on Tuesday 31st May. This year’s oration entitled; ‘The Way Forward – Informed by the past’ was delivered by the new Minister for Indigenous Australians, Hon Linda Burney. The Oration honours the influential Aboriginal leader, Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue AC CBE DSG and gives voice to vital issues for our nation’s first people.

Year 11 Science
In Year 11 Chemistry at USC students did an introductory set of experiments in which they dissolved copper and converted it into various forms before reforming the copper metal at the end. This helped them revise Year 10 Chemistry and link that with Chemical theory they will be learning throughout this year.
How to have a Healthy Mind in Year 11 with Tom Nehmy
USC Year 11 Mentoring session was held at the Palace Nova Cinema in Rundle Street. Dr Tom Nehmy PhD presented and the focus was on learning strategies. ‘How to have a Healthy Mind in Year 11’.

USC Year 11 Mock Trial
The University Senior College Year 11 Legal Studies Mock Trial Team won Round 1 of the Law Society’s Mock Trial Competition against Harvest Christian School on 8 March. University Senior College was representing the Defendant, Charlie Bowman, who was being sued in negligence for a car accident that occurred on a roundabout. The University Senior College Team successfully persuaded the judge to dismiss the claim against the Defendant and also won the round by 10 points.
The Australian Science Olympiads
The Australian Science Olympiads program is the ultimate science challenge for any Science student. It is a rewarding opportunity tailored for Year 11 students to stretch themselves way beyond school science through challenging exams, stimulating residential programs and international competitions in Physics, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science and Biology. Therefore, to be selected to represent Australia at the International Science Olympiad and to be able to compete against the world's best in Science, sitting the Australian Science Olympiad Exams is the first step.
Through the looking glass
Congratulations are in order for University Senior College Year 11 student Janesia Stillwell who had her poem 'Through the looking glass' selected for inclusion in the December issue of the poetry journal 'The Junior Crow'. Janesia’s was one of nine poems selected for the journal. According to the editor of ‘The Crow’ her submission will appear alongside the work of adult poets across Australia. Congratulations Janesia.
Creative Writing
Year 11 and 12 USC students, accompanied by Elly Pfitzner, attended a dynamic creative writing workshop held by The University of Adelaide’s Faculty of Arts. The workshop provided students with opportunities to refine their writing skills and work alongside Arts faculty. The session was well received and students thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
