Student Agency has been synonymous with both the annual Student Charter statements and Strategic direction of the school for many years.
As an adult learning environment, the school actively seeks to provide all students with the platform and opportunities to flourish and to embrace our mission – to inspire, empower and nurture lifelong learning.
At the beginning of 2019 to complement our interest in and commitment to student agency USC embarked upon a three-year Student Agency Lab project, in conjunction with 15 other independent schools. The project run through the Association of Independent Schools South Australia (AISSA) and facilitated by British academic, Charles Leadbeater, while challenging has provided invaluable confirmation about the path we have taken as a school.
Another key area where student agency has manifested itself has been within their learning. Our staff have sought and responded to student input and feedback related to blended and modified learning, when this has been required and the manner in which students have taken the initiative in subjects where student agency is a key requirement not just something that is welcome has been encouraging.
“I love the independence and initiative the school grants to students. It gives back control and helps make the students feel in charge of their own learning.”Braheem, Year 10
