Year 11 Chemistry investigated cross-linking polymers
University Senior College Year 11 Chemistry students investigated the effect of a cross-linking agent on the physical properties of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Investigations of this nature are important as cross-linking polymers have many applications in medicine, new battery technology, and the generation of ‘green’ fuels such as hydrogen.

Mock Trial Competition Winners - Round 3

Congratulations to University Senior College Year 11 Legal Studies students who won Round 3 of the Law Society’s Mock Trial Competition
Hallett Cove geological visit

Hallett Cove, with its geological marvels, offered University Senior College Year 11 Earth and Environmental Studies students a unique window into a narrative that spans an impressive 600 million years.
Congratulations to University Senior College Year 11 Legal Studies Students!

Year 11 Music at USC
University Senior College Year 11 Music students have been developing their ensemble skills by selecting and rehearsing a range of music together each week.
Year 11 Biology

USC Year 11 Biology class did the potato practical, where they investigated how size impacts the rate of movement of water and provide evidence to explain why cells are so small. By changing the surface area to volume ratio students were able to determine that smaller cubes had a greater percent of their mass lost compared to larger cubes.
Year 11 Meet the Mentor Night
USC Year 11 Meet the Mentor Night was a great night where parents/caregivers could meet and build a connection with their child’s Mentor for 2023.
Year 11 Drama - Roses of Eyam

USC Year 11 Drama performed Don Taylor’s Roses of Eyam in November. This play, about a village in Derbyshire which quarantined itself to stop the spread of the plague in 1666-67, held special resonance in 2022. The cast and designers worked hard for a striking, dramatic, and poignant result.
Year 11 Chemistry
USC Year 11 Chemistry students are here observing a metal displacement reaction, in this case the formation of pure silver due to the reduction of silver ions when exposed to a metallic zinc coil. This was the precursor to the students carrying out their own metal displacement reaction as part of their study of oxidation and reduction. These principles are the basis for batteries and photography.
