SA Student Representative Council Summit
In May, more than 150 students from across South Australia came together for the first ever South Australian Student Representative Council (SA SRC) Summit. The SA SRC is led by the Commissioner for Children and Young People. The Foundation for Young Australians aims to elevate student voices and address key problems they face in South Australia. USC Year 12 student Anjali Beames applied and was selected to be part of the SA SRC. This group is now focusing on a campaign about student voice that is strategizing ways in which young people can be informed and included in influencing social change. At the SA SRC summit, Anjali had the opportunity to meet and talk with Lucy Hood, the MP for Adelaide, about ways to improve the CBD for young people.
USC Mock Trial Semi-Final Win
Congratulations to University Senior College Year 11 Legal Studies students for their win against Botanic High School in the semi-final of the Law Society’s Mock Trial Competition.
The Somerton Man
As part of USC STEM Community Connections and Partnerships, Professor Derek Abbott from The University of Adelaide delivered a talk on The Somerton Man to our students last term.
SALA Festival
The SALA (South Australian Living Artists) Festival was held from 1-13 August 2022. The exhibition, ‘In The Making’, featured selected works by USC Year 10, 11, 12 Art and Design students. These artists and designers in the making explored fashion design, painting, sculpture and digital drawing. The range of works reflect the diversity of styles and interests of USC Art and Design students.
USC Merit Awards Winners Lunch
USC welcomed back on Friday 5 August their 2021 Merit winners for a congratulatory lunch and photo for those who were able to attend.
Parliament Visit
University Senior College students were treated to a reception, presentation and parliamentary tour with Member for Adelaide, Lucy Hood MP. The students were excited to attend parliament as it had been years since most of them had been. They engaged in debate, asked questions and heard about the history of the institution. Everyone was very engaged and Lucy was impressed by the knowledge and passion of our students.
Year 12 One on One Meetings
Sasha Champion from the domestic recruitment team of The University of Adelaide is meeting on a one-on-one basis this term to support our Year 12 students with degree selection, SATAC preferences and their university application process for 2023.
