USC Students Dive into the World of Entertainment Design
In an exciting series of recent excursions, USC students from Years 10 had the unique opportunity to explore the world of Entertainment Design - a thriving industry supported through USC’s ongoing partnership with CDW Studios. These experiences not only deepened students’ appreciation for visual storytelling but also sharpened their essential observational skills, which form the backbone of all visually expressive arts.
The first stop was CDW Studios, where students tackled one of the most demanding artistic practices: life drawing. Under the guidance of renowned artist Duncan Li, students engaged in intensive observational exercises, learning to capture the human form with accuracy and expression. It was a challenge embraced wholeheartedly, with many students stepping well outside their comfort zones.
Next, the group ventured to the South Australian Museum. Here, students turned their focus to stationary subjects, refining their skills in proportion, detail, and texture without the pressure of movement.
The third and final excursion upped the ante with a visit to the Adelaide Zoo. Faced with live animal subjects, students had to adapt quickly, translating fast-moving forms into compelling visual studies. It was a true test of patience, speed, and technique.
Throughout all three excursions, USC students approached each task with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn through trial and error. These immersive experiences not only strengthened foundational art skills but also offered a glimpse into the professional world of entertainment design - an exciting career path that USC is proud to support.
