Pompeii, Herculaneum and Sourdough

In USC Year 11 Ancient Studies the class have been looking at Pompeii and Herculaneum with a particular focus on bread and bakeries right now. Valerie, a Biology Teacher at USC kindly came into the class and did a collaboration teaching students the history of bread in ancient Rome and how to make a sourdough starter with a demonstration. Some students chose to make their starter as well. Valerie and Steve both made two authentic ancient Roman bread loaves from spelt flour and buckwheat flour. There was a shared lunch, and Tammy brought accompaniments for the bread. A wonderful experience for our students.
