James Webb Space Telescope

Students with Professor Gavin Rowell

Professor Gavin Rowell from The University of Adelaide provided firsthand insights on James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to the University Senior College students. JWST is a collaborative effort between NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Canadian Space Agency, named after James E. Webb, who was NASA's administrator during the Apollo program Launched in December 2021.It's designed to observe space using infrared light, producing the deepest images ever captured. In July 2022, NASA unveiled the first deep field image, showcasing a cluster of galaxies, followed by images of the Carina Nebula, Southern Ring Nebula, and Stephan's Quintet galaxy group. Scientists anticipate that JWST's images will revolutionize our understanding of the universe's origins, including insights into the birth of galaxies, formation of solar systems, and identification of potentially habitable planets. Our Year 12 Physics students will do their investigation on JWST and complete a SHE task.
