USC Celebrates ‘Wear it Purple Day’
Today University Senior College staff and students celebrated Wear it Purple Day. The Wear it Purple organisation strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people. Donning their best purple ensembles, staff and students gathered on the Jordan Lawns for a B.B.Q. lunch in a show of support for those LGBTQIA+ people from the College community and beyond. Wear it Purple was founded in 2010 in response to young people experiencing bullying and harassment as a result of their sexuality or gender identity. Wear it Purple was established to show young people across the globe that there is hope, that there are people who support and accept them, and that they have the right to be proud of who they are.
