Outgrown middle school? Want a learning challenge with a difference?
In 2020 University Senior College introduced Year 10. USC, always a trendsetter in senior secondary education, now includes Year 10 as part of its learning experience.
Year 10 at USC provides an exciting opportunity and significant flexibility for students who require acceleration in their learning. The USC Year 10 experience combines a range of Year 10 and some Year 11 subjects. Most importantly University Senior College, provides a learning environment where everyone wants to learn.
You will be in classes large enough to encourage debate and explore new ideas, but small enough for you to receive the attention needed to help you begin your senior years of high school in a positive and exciting way. Maximum class size is capped at 20 students.
Your teachers are recognised as subject specialists. They not only have a deep knowledge, experience and passion for their areas, but understand that there is much more to learning and to young people today. At USC, you will learn to take responsibility for your learning, as well as learn to work more independently and effectively with others. Along with the possibility to have one-on-one sessions with your teachers, this approach will give you the tools and opportunities to take your learning to the next level.
Naturally your course will include English, Mathematics, the Arts, Sciences, the PLP and the Humanities. As we are a school that is focused on getting you on your pathway to university, we know that other subjects like philosophy, ethics, civics and entrepreneurship are critical also. They provide the opportunity to challenge your thinking, to develop an understanding of student voice, and prepare you for life outside of school.
You will experience learning in the centre of our city, where the University of Adelaide, State Library, Art Gallery, Museum and the Zoo are easily accessible and will be a natural part of your classroom.
Our unique partnership with the University of Adelaide will ensure you meet and learn from staff at the University and have the chance to visit and use the University’s facilities.
Our adult learning environment starts with simple things like no school uniform or bells, addressing staff by their first names and having flexibility in your day. These things are designed to assist you to develop into independent and successful learners within a mutually respectful environment.
Our Mentoring and Wellbeing programs are designed to support you to be the best version of you. We understand that to learn, you need to feel good about yourself and your studies. Our Mentoring program is based upon the principles of Positive Education and our unique USC Graduate Attributes. Our school value of mutual respect drives all we do.
