The first step towards success at school in Australia starts with good English communication. USC provides an Intensive English program specifically designed to prepare international students for entry into Year 11 and Year 12. Intensive English classes are kept small ensuring students receive personal support and care, guaranteeing individual attention.
Intensive English (IE)
Students whose first language is not English are required to study Intensive English as part of their program. Students applying for entry to USC are required to provide evidence of their English language levels. All students must either undertake a USC English Proficiency Test or provide USC with an IELTS score before beginning their language course.
IELTS requirements are as follows:
For a full year 11 course - 5.0
For 1 semester of year 11 - 5.5
Once the Intensive English course has commenced, students must study according to their Letter of Offer.
Four steps to achieving success
- Intensive English
- Year 11
- Year 12
USC offers the South Australian School of Education (SACE). Entry to USC is at Year 11 level. Direct entry into Year 12 is not possible. Students choose their subjects to satisfy national tertiary entrance requirements and gain a score based on their performance in Year 12. Different university courses require varying levels of tertiary entrance scores for enrolment.
Students have the option of gaining up to 6 credits of Stage 1 of the South Australian Certificate of Education during their Intensive English course. A SACE registration fee applies.
Reporting student progress
At USC we provide students and parents with regular feedback about academic progress. Detailed written reports are sent regularly and parents are welcome to contact the International Dean.
